This short man of the western cities supplies the refinement and delicacy his brawny partner lacks.

Scalpel && Cat's Claw: He calls his rapier Scalpel and the dagger he uses (balanced for throwing) Cat's Claw.

The Gray Mouser is very fond of studying things arcane, but has not the magical skills to master his studies.
He has a great aversion to anything sharp being pointed at him,
an aversion that has saved his life many times.
He generally fights with Scalpel in his right hand and Cat's Claw in his left,
incurring no penalties to hit due to his phenomenal DEX.
When so armed,
he strikes 3 times per melee round,
with a 50% chance that the third strike will be with either weapon.

While the Mouser grew up on the streets (with all that implies),
his teen years were spent with an old hedge magician who taught him the ways of law and a little magic.
It was these days spent in the forests with his mentor that gave Mouser his streak of morality.
It was shortly after this time that the young man met his lifelong friend Fafhrd.
While the Gray Mouser is a thief,
a liar,
and a trickster supreme,
he can be relied upon to keep faith for causes he supports and people he favors.

PS
No wonder my namesake never made it as a mage, this stuff's troublesome

Careless of me not to go the extra step or two to make sure the matter was crystal clear in the first place <EEK!>

Having met Harry Fisher,
the chap that Fritz Leiber used as the model for Gray Mouser, I suspect the reason for no progressing in magical ability was more do to revels and adventuring than other reasons

Cheers,
Gary

As for the Gray Mouser's ability (or lack thereof) at magic, his disintegration of the mages in "The Lord's of Quarmall" is one of my favorite episodes, especially since they were the wrong mages

Gray Mouser

I met Harry once only, and for only something less than a week's time.
Physically, the good Mr. Fisher matched the description of Gray Mouser, he having been a ballet dancer in his prime.
Mentally he was keen and sharp-tongued to match, quite the opposite of the more laconic and easy-going Mr. Leiber, his dear friend.
Harry was also ascerbic of wit, outspoken, and demanding.
He was flamboyant in dress and at times in speaking.
He loved to imbibe and have fun, so at Gencon X his room was party central.
Fritz retired early...even whrn he was my house guest after the convention was over.

That's what I can pass along.

Cheers,
Gary
